Actor Nana Patekar visited the Rajouri garrison near the India-Pakistan border to extend support to families hit by cross-border shelling after Operation Sindoor.

Through his NGO, the Nirmala Gajanan Foundation, Patekar joined hands with the Indian Army to distribute rehabilitation packages worth ₹42 lakh. The relief reached 117 families in Rajouri and Poonch districts, who suffered the most in the aftermath of the shelling.

Speaking to the media during the visit, the National Award-winning actor said helping affected citizens is a duty for everyone.

“It is our responsibility to help when such incidents take place in the nation. They are our brothers and sisters. It is a collective responsibility for all of us. We haven't done any favors for any of them. This is what everyone should do,” Patekar said.

He also praised fellow actor Johnny Lever for quietly helping people in need, pointing out that many in the film industry prefer not to seek publicity during such difficult times.
“People from our film industry also do a lot for people in need, but never come to the forefront. Johnny Lever is one of them. If we don't do it, then who else will?” he added.

Supported by Indian Army and administration

According to officials, Patekar, along with trustees of his foundation, personally oversaw the distribution on September 22 at Rajouri garrison. The initiative was carried out with the support of the Indian Army and local administration, both of which have been working for the welfare of border residents.

“The government did a lot, but don't be dependent on them, do something by yourself too. I feel satisfied when I become the reason for someone's happiness,” the actor said.

The Nirmala Gajanan Foundation, named after Patekar’s parents, has been active across India in fields such as education and healthcare. The Rajouri initiative is part of its continuing efforts to support communities in need.
