Selena Gomez, the 32-year-old singer, actress and makeup mogul , recently opened up about her inability to have children due to ongoing medical challenges. In a candid interview, she shared that health complications have made it unsafe for her to carry a pregnancy.

While speaking to Vanity Fair, Gomez said “I haven’t ever said this, but I unfortunately can’t carry my own children." “I have a lot of medical issues that would put my life and the baby’s in jeopardy.” She further added “That was something I had to grieve for a while.”

Over the decade, Gomez has had a roller coaster of health issues that she had to endure. She was diagnosed with lupus in 2013 a chronic ailment that affects the immune system in the body leading to inflammation on various organs such as the joints, skin, kidneys, heart and lungs. Some of the symptoms include tiredness, pain in the joints, rashes in the skin as well as high temperatures.

In 2017, Selena Gomez had a kidney transplant due to lupus, the donor was her friend, Francia Raisa.Later in 2018, she said that she had been diagnosed with bipolar disorder which is a mental health condition whereby an individual has extreme mood swings or fluctuations in energy. Rolling Stone reported that the medicinal drugs that the singer takes for bipolar disorder may worsen the odds of her safe pregnancy and bringing biological children into the world.

She spoke about her other future options for having children and told Vanity Fair, “I find it a blessing that there are wonderful people willing to do surrogacy or adoption, which are both huge possibilities for me. It made me really thankful for the other outlets for people who are dying to be moms. I’m one of those people. I’m excited for what that journey will look like, but it’ll look a little different. At the end of the day, I don’t care. It’ll be mine. It’ll be my baby.”

Selena Gomez, who is currently in a relationship with Benny Blanco, shared her thoughts on marriage, emphasizing that neither her family nor she is placing any pressure on tying the knot. She expressed a desire to keep their relationship authentic and free of expectations. She said "We always make sure we’re protecting what we have, but there’s no rules. I want him to always be himself. I always want to be myself.”
