Production house Vyjayanthi Movies has officially announced that actor Deepika Padukone will not be part of the sequel to Kalki 2898 AD. In a post shared on X (formerly Twitter), the makers wrote,

“This is to officially announce that @deepikapadukone will not be a part of the upcoming sequel of #Kalki2898AD. After careful consideration, we have decided to part ways. Despite the long journey of making the first film, we were unable to find a partnership. And a film like @Kalki2898AD deserves that commitment and much more. We wish her the best with her future works.”

The statement left fans surprised, especially since Deepika had a key role in the first installment.

Star Cast of Kalki 2898 AD

Kalki 2898 AD featured Prabhas, Amitabh Bachchan, Disha Patani, and Deepika Padukone in pivotal roles. The sci-fi film, directed by Nag Ashwin, was a massive project with Deepika playing a crucial character. Her presence in the sequel was widely expected before the announcement.

The announcement quickly triggered a wave of reactions on social media. One user wrote, “Nag Ashwin should be ready to face the music from Deepika fans.” Another added, “I don’t think it’s the effect of Prabhas/Spirit, it might be something else.”

Some fans even suggested replacements for her role. One post read, “Cast Keerthy Suresh as Sumathi @nagashwin7. We have best talent and perfect fit for the role !!!! 🤍.” Another suggested, “Lokah movie’s @kalyanipriyan.”

Not all reactions were sympathetic. A user commented, “Glad she isn’t part of this franchise… Literally there was no emotion in all the scenes she acted in… Even Mrunal Thakur has better expressions for the few minutes she was on the screen.”

Earlier this year, Deepika reportedly walked out of Prabhas’ upcoming film Spirit directed by Sandeep Reddy Vanga. Following her exit, Triptii Dimri was announced as her replacement.
