The King of Bollywood Shah Rukh Khan, who is undoubtedly one of the driving forces of Bollywood cinematography, will be awarded the Pardo alla Carriera at the 77th Locarno Film Festival, which will be held in Locarno, Switzerland, on August 7–17. The awarding event is planned for Saturday, August 10, at the open-space theater Piazza Grande. The festival is dedicated to Khan’s brilliant filmography in Indian cinema, as, for now, he has appeared in more than a hundred movies of various kinds. 

The ‘Main Hoon Na’ star will receive the award on the 10th of August in the open-air Piazza Grande. Also, one of his most appreciated films, Devdas by Sanjay Leela Bhansali, will be shown in the framework of the event. The same is also expected to be present for a talk at the Forum @Spazio Cinema on August 11.

The Locarno Film Festival Artistic Director, Giona A. Nazzaro, said, “To welcome a living legend like Shah Rukh Khan to Locarno is a dream come true! The wealth and breadth of his contribution to Indian cinema are unprecedented. Khan is a king who has never lost touch with the audience that crowned him. This brave and daring artist has always been willing to challenge himself while remaining true to what his fans all over the world eagerly expect from his films. A true ‘people’s hero’, sophisticated and down to earth, Shah Rukh Khan is a legend of our times.”

The statement further remarked that the films Khan has acted in have received international acclaim, making him a favorite icon of the world's population. Owing to this, he has built a massive fan following and has been able to front India and his films at numerous prestigious film festivals across the globe. 

After residing out of cinema for four years, SRK came back with back-to-back three blockbuster movies in a row in 2023. His comeback was preceded by Pathaan, which was also produced by YRF, and the next movie was Atlee’s Jawan. Both movies were blockbuster hits; The Cabin attracted the second-highest movie-going audience in 2023, and The Shining produced the third-highest-grossing movie-going audience in 2023. Khan’s third movie of the year, Dunki, also directed by Rajkumar Hirani, went on to become another hit. Previous awardees of this honour include the Italian film star Claudia Cardinale, the late calypso singer Harry Belafonte, Malaysian film director Tsai Ming-Liang, and many others.
