Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami on Thursday made an important announcement at the Assembly under Rule 110 that the state government has decided to promote the students of classes 9, 10, and 11 to the next class without any examinations.

The lower classes till 8th had already been granted promotion without exams or superficial internal assessment last year when the cases of Coronavirus were surging throughout the country and state.

The decision was made based on the inputs from medical experts who suggested the situation is not conducive to conduct the SSLC and plus one exam, the Tamil Nadu CM has said.

As the entire world battled against the pandemic, the Tamil Nadu government ordered the closure of schools to prevent the spread of the virus. “The schools were ordered to close from March 25, 2020, to contain the spread of the pandemic and were reopened only for classes 10 and 12 on January 19, after Coronavirus was brought under control considerably,” said CM K Palaniswami.

Although Class 12 exams will begin with a language paper on May 3 and end with the Chemistry, Accountancy, and Geography papers on May 21. The duration of the exam will be three hours. Tamil Nadu Class 12 exams will be held from 10 am to 01:15 pm.
