Initially set for June 23, the NEET-PG exam was suddenly postponed just hours before it was to begin amid allegations of irregularities, including leaked question papers for the undergraduate exam. The government had then promised to “undertake a thorough assessment of the robustness of the processes of NEET-PG, conducted by the National Board of Examinations for medical students.” The cancellation of NEET-PG sparked outrage among hundreds of thousands of applicants. Similarly, the NEET-UG exams have faced controversy, with students alleging malpractices such as paper leaks.

NEET PG Exam and Other Testing Controversies Lead to Leadership Changes

Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan has established a high-level committee to investigate the complaints. The postponement of the NEET-PG exam came after a public outcry over similar issues with the NEET-UG and UGC-NET exams. These exams, crucial for confirming professorial appointments and awarding research fellowships, have been under scrutiny for potential irregularities. Minister Dharmendra Pradhan also validated student reports that NEET-UG and UGC-NET questions were being sold on the darknet, bringing attention to the National Testing Agency (NTA), which oversees both exams. Consequently, NTA chief SK Singh was removed from his position.

In the meantime, the NEET-UG re-test results have been announced, reducing the number of toppers from 67 to 61. Despite this, 60 percent of the 813 students who retook the exam improved their scores without grace marks, with most achieving above 680. However, none could match their previous scores that included grace marks.
