The Meghalaya government is bringing a new way of learning for young children—through games and activities! Chief Minister Conrad Sangma announced this initiative while opening a Model Creative Learning Centre (MCLC) in Dobakkol, Tura. The idea is to make learning fun and engaging so that children can develop important life skills while playing.

Why is Game-Based learning important?

Children learn best through playing. According to the Chief Minister, it is through games that children enhance their thinking, motor skills, creativity, and self-control. This approach allows a child's natural learning rather than doing things mechanically.

What is the Early Childhood Development (ECD) mission?

The Meghalaya government has launched an Early Childhood Development mission to support young learners. As per this plan, the state will establish special learning centers wherein kids can engage and learn interactively.

The first Model Creative Learning Centre was established with the assistance of Mere Mentor and Dobakkol Non-Govt L.P. School. The Chief Minister's Special Development Fund (CMSDF) has sanctioned ₹50 lakh for building the center, but the responsibility of running it will be shared by both the school and the organization.

Meghalaya's government studied the best education practices from European countries and the UK to create its learning framework. The Chief Minister emphasized that from birth to age 8, a child's brain grows rapidly, and providing the right kind of education during this time is crucial.

The government is planning to upgrade Anganwadis into Smart Anganwadis across Meghalaya. A similar learning center in Dura Asim village (South Garo Hills) has already been working successfully for two years.
