One step recently taken by the Bihar government includes the prospect of introducing MBBS courses in Hindi. This has made Bihar the second state, with Madhya Pradesh being the first, to provide this choice. Earlier today, the state health minister, Mangal Pandey, while addressing the media, stated that from the next academic year, medical students will be able to study MBBS in Hindi.

The State Health Ministry said, "The Health Department of Bihar, under the leadership of Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, has taken this historic step after thorough discussions on the necessary aspects, including the availability of Hindi textbooks for the MBBS course. This decision aligns with the government's goal of promoting Hindi and making it a global language.”

The new MBBS course in Hindi option will be available for those who qualify for the for the NEET UG 2024 test, and they will follow the syllabus of AIIMS Delhi. The Hindi-speaking population in Bihar prefers their children to learn through the medium of Hindi that approximately 85, 000 government schools teach.

It is pertinent to note that Madhya Pradesh was the first BJP-ruled state to introduce MBBS programs in Hindi. The decision to launch the Hindi MBBS program was announced last year by Vishwas Sarang, the education minister of Madhya Pradesh, after Union Home Minister Amit Shah, in an early announcement, said the Hindi course material for the program would soon be out.

Even though the Hindi MBBS program was initiated sometime ago, it has garnered very little response among the students in the state. For instance, according to Education Times, the GMC in Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh, discovered that only 25 students out of 250 that were admitted to the MBBS program chose to study in Hindi.
