Leading edtech unicorn, Physics Wallah, founded by Alakh Pandey, is now venturing into offline education with the inauguration of PW Gurukulam School in Gurugram. The school marks Physics Wallah's entry into primary education and will offer elementary education from play school to seventh grade. With a focus on experiential learning and innovative curriculum, PW Gurukulam is set to redefine elementary education in India.
The newly launched PW Gurukulam School, affiliated with the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), has enrolled an impressive 400 students in its inaugural batch. The curriculum is carefully designed to align with the National Education Policy 2020, focusing on a holistic approach to learning. Alakh Pandey, Founder and CEO of Physics Wallah, expressed his vision for the school, stating, "At PW Gurukulam, we aim to offer education that covers a wide spectrum and will enable students to choose from limitless possibilities rather than conventional career paths."
PW Gurukulam School promises an education grounded in experiential learning, focusing on areas like financial literacy and entrepreneurship. Through innovative programs such as Model United Nations (MUN), the school aims to nurture well-rounded students equipped to thrive in a rapidly evolving world. Additionally, the school has zero tolerance for bullying.
This venture into offline primary education marks an important expansion for Physics Wallah, which initially gained popularity for its online IIT/JEE and NEET coaching services.
Since its start in 2020, Physics Wallah has diversified its offerings, including postgraduate programs, UPSC preparation, and upskilling courses. The startup, which began as a YouTube channel, now has over 72 tech-enabled offline Vidyapeeth and 28 hybrid Pathshala locations across India.
The decision to venture into physical schools comes amidst a broader trend in the edtech sector of embracing offline channels. Despite the challenges posed by the ongoing funding winter in the Indian edtech ecosystem, Physics Wallah's and other startups have remained unaffected. BYJU’s is the only exception here, the poster boy of the edtech ecosystem is currently facing a major crisis.
In December last year, PW, which entered the unicorn club in 2022 after a $100 Mn funding round, reported an increase in its revenue from operations, jumping 3.3 times year-on-year to INR 771.76 crore in the financial year 2022-23. This impressive growth reflects the increasing demand for its educational offerings across online and offline channels. Moreover, PW aims to further expand its offline presence, with plans to increase the number of centers to over 120 in 2024.
