Indian Institute of Management, Bangalore (IIM-B) is making a pioneering move by introducing undergraduate degree courses, becoming the first IIM to do so. This renowned institution, known for its excellence in management education and ranked as the top B-School in India, is venturing into undergraduate education. The I-JG courses at IIM-B will encompass four main disciplines: economics, behavioral science, data science, and sustainability. These programs will place a strong emphasis on fostering critical thinking, leadership skills, and interdisciplinary learning.

The Director, Professor Rishikesha Krishnan, discussed the institute's plans to broaden its impact and address the growing demand for high-quality undergraduate education in India. However, launching these undergraduate programs entails raising substantial resources, which is currently a work in progress. The initial goal was to introduce these programs by the following year, but due to ongoing resource generation phases, a more realistic timeline is now set for 2025.

Professor Krishnan emphasized the urgent need for high-quality undergraduate education in India, as many students are heading abroad in large numbers to pursue their desired opportunities. While there are ample options for engineering education, there is a scarcity of high-quality undergraduate programs in the humanities, social sciences, management, and other areas. aims to address this gap and make a significant impact in this space.

If IIM-B successfully enters the undergraduate education arena, it will mark a historic moment as the first IIM to do so. Currently, only Indore and Kozhikode admit students directly after school, but this path is primarily open to those enrolling in 5-year integrated programs. In contrast, all others typically admit only graduates.
