May 6, 2024: The Council for the Indian School Certificate Examinations (CISCE) announced exceptional Class X (ICSE) and Class XII (ISC) test results. With a success record of 99.5% for ICSE and 98.2% for ISC, the results show students' hard work and the excellent standards maintained by CISCE colleges.
This year, girls continued to outperform boys in the ICSE, with a passing score of 99.7% versus 99.3%. Similarly, 98.2% of girls passed ISC examinations, whereas just 97.5% of boys did. In an unusual move, CISCE elected to hide the names of top scores in order to prevent unhealthy competition among students.
The tests were held from February to April 2024. 2,695 schools took the ICSE examinations, and an outstanding 82.5% passed with a perfect score of 100. For ISC exams, 1,366 schools submitted candidates, with 66.2% getting a perfect score. Notably, Uttar Pradesh had the highest number of schools taking both the ICSE and ISC exams.
In terms of geographical achievement, the Western region led the way for ICSE exams, with an impressive 99.9% success rate. The Southern region followed closely behind, with a pass rate of 99.8%. Interestingly, the Southern area had the highest percentage of female candidates (49.5%).
For ISC exams, the trend was similar. The Northern region had the most examinees, and the Southern region had the greatest pass rate (99.5%). However, the Western area continued to contribute the greatest number of female examinees (50.6%).
CISCE CEO Joseph Emmanuel emphasized five major factors in his announcement of the results. He added that compartment examinations for both ICSE and ISC would be discontinued starting in 2024. He also praised the remarkable performance, noting that the results were somewhat better than the prior year.
Notably, numerous students achieved exemplary scores of 100% in all sorts of topics and languages, including English. This performance, despite the inclusion of higher-order thinking skills questions in the papers, illustrates the outstanding educational standards maintained by CISCE schools.
To add to the glory, schools in Indonesia, Singapore, and Dubai produced exceptional results, with a perfect 100% pass record in both ICSE and ISC exams.
The exams themselves were extensive. The ICSE test, which ran from February 21 to March 28, covered 60 written courses, including 20 Indian languages, 13 foreign languages, and one classical language. The ISC test, which ran from February 12 to April 4, covered 47 written subjects, including 12 Indian languages, four foreign languages, and two classical languages.
It's important to note the success stories of students with learning difficulties and visual challenges. In the ICSE exam, among 1,088 such candidates, 98 students managed to score above 90%. Similarly, 12 out of 40 visually challenged students achieved marks exceeding 90%. The ISC exam mirrored this achievement, with 18 out of 236 students with learning difficulties scoring above 90%, and two out of 11 visually challenged candidates exceeding 90 marks.
