The Indian Army is looking forward to introducing a new unit called "Opposing Forces," i.e., "OPFOR" in the Indian Army.
The OPFOR plans are in the discussion phase and awaiting final approval from the Army's top leadership, Indian Express reported. In this, the Army will face more real-life situations where they will imitate a real-life combat situation and a war game.
To ensure the war game, a statement was released by the Ministry of Defence (MOD) on Thursday that said, "To ensure realistic wargaming and training, the feasibility of creating a tailor-made organization to function as an adversarial force will be explored."
Is this method followed anywhere else?
Yes, it is said that many foreign militaries have already performed this war game to prepare their Army for a real war situation. This will provide our Army with real combat experience rather than practicing it from a theoretical background.
This will give more power to combat practice and war game, and this is where the topic of the discussion during the Army commander conference was raised to make it more realistic so that the Army will get more realistic training and be ready for any situation. It is also said that this unit will be formed from the current army unit only.
To make the overall game more realistic and practical, this unit will imitate opponents' tactics, how they operate, and the weapons they use. Similarly, the practice will be performed in this unit.
From the past, it is seen that the Army is divided into two parts, i.e., blue land and red land, but in this case, there are chances that the system will provide a similar experience to each and every army person to be well trained and to give each one of them the first-hand experience to make them prepared.
Also, during the conference, many other possibilities were discussed to make our troop futuristic, well-advanced, and well-aware of the changing technology; it was also discussed to introduce such technologies in the Army to make us more self-reliant by using such methods and advancements. Army Chief General Manoj Pande commenced this conference.
This shows the level of commitment and new reforms like OPFOR to be introduced in the coming future, where they will try to tackle all the possibilities and situations that arise during the war situation.
The OPFOR unit will possibly bring more clarity to the Indian Army, allowing them to think about the tactics of their enemies during a combat situation. This will also bring them closer to working on their weaknesses and turning them into strength, which will make them fully fledge-ready; this will also help boost confidence and practice from a more realistic angle.
