Four Soldiers Martyred in JK: Four Indian Army soldiers, including a major, were killed during an encounter with terrorists in the Doda district of Jammu and Kashmir on Monday. Officials reported that the Indian Army and the Jammu and Kashmir Police initiated a joint operation in the Desa area of Doda, following specific intelligence about the presence of terrorists.
The Army posted on Twitter, saying, “Contact with terrorists was established at about 9 p.m., in which a heavy firefight ensued. Initial reports suggest injuries to our brave hearts.”
Escalating Terror Threat in Jammu
Officials reported that at least five soldiers were critically injured in the encounter. This marks the second major attack in the Jammu region within a week, following an incident in Kathua last week where five soldiers were killed in action.
In the attack, which also left five soldiers injured, terrorists launched a coordinated strike on two trucks carrying at least 12 troops. The trucks, positioned about 500 meters apart, were targeted with grenades. Alarmingly, the assailants used armour-piercing bullets tipped with hardened steel and an M4 assault rifle.
Terrorist attacks, initially concentrated in the Poonch and Rajouri districts, have now extended across the Jammu region, which had been free from terrorism until a few years ago. In the past 32 months, 48 soldiers have been killed in action in Jammu.
Reports suggest that more than 60 foreign terrorists, specializing in jungle warfare, may be operating exclusively within the Jammu region, casting a shadow of fear over all 10 districts of the province. In response to the escalating threat, Prime Minister Narendra Modi last month directed the Army to deploy its comprehensive range of anti-terrorist measures to eradicate terrorism in the Jammu region.
