Controversy on Bobby Kataria arrested:
Manish Tomar from Dhaulapur, Hapur, and Arun Kumar from Gopalganj, Uttar Pradesh, lodged an FIR with Gurugram Police, accusing Bobby Kataria of promoting "fraudulent" overseas job opportunities on his Instagram page.
Influenced by his advertisement, they reached out to Kataria's office in Sector 109, Gurugram. There, they were asked to pay a registration fee of Rs 2,000 and were assured jobs in the UAE. Soon they ended up transferring Rs 3.5 lakh in three installments to Kataria's accounts.
The victims told that they were sent to Vientiane (Laos) by flight. Upon arrival, they met an associate of Kataria who identified himself as Pakistani took them to a hotel in Vientiane.
The next day, they met another person named Abhi, who sent them to Navatuai by train. On reaching Navatuai, they met Ankit Shaukeen and Nitish Sharma, who took them to a Chinese company where their passports were seized, they were held captive and assaulted.
They were forced into illegal cyber fraud activities targeting Americans. Desperate and tensed, they managed to flee and reached the Indian embassy. There, they unveiled the operations of Bobby Kataria and his network.
This isn't the first time that Kataria has been arrested. Previously, he was arrested in a case involving extortion and online harassment of a woman.
In August 2022, a case was lodged against him in Dehradun after a video of him drinking alcohol in the middle of the road went viral.
The police and the NIA are further investigating this case to nab other people involved in this network.
