US woman deceived to buy fake jewellery worth Rs. 300 in Jaipur for Rs. 6 crore

Moissanite stones were sold to Cherish, who has been doing business with the two for a few years and has purchased jewellery worth a total of Rs 9.18 crore, rather than real diamonds. Cherish challenged the vendors when it was revealed that the jewellery was fraudulent when she presented it at an exhibition in the US in April.

The Jaipur Police have initiated a probe after an American woman was deceived into buying fake jewellery worth Rs. 300 for Rs. 6 crores from a Johri Bazaar shop in Jaipur, falling under Manak Chowk Police Station jurisdiction.

When she went back to Jaipur to face the store owners, Rajendra Soni and his son Gaurav, they disregarded her concerns and denied the accusations. Cherish thereafter made a police report (FIR) at Manak Chowk against the business proprietors. The accused brought a fake case against her as payback.

Cherish, distressed by the events, contacted the US Embassy for assistance, and with their involvement, Jaipur Police began investigating and found that the jewellery was indeed fake. As per a Business Standard story, Cherish, feeling devastated at the turn of events, requested help from the US Embassy. The sale of the phony jewels was discovered during the Jaipur Police’s investigation, which was prompted by the intervention of the embassy.

“Investigations have revealed that the accused sold silver jewellery with gold polish, worth Rs 300, to the foreigner for Rs 6 crore and provided her with a fake certificate of authenticity. Nand Kishore, who issued the fake certificate, has been arrested, and a search is ongoing for the absconding father and son,” Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police North Bajrang Singh Shekhawat said.

The person who supplied the phony certificate for the jewels has been detained, but the shop owner and his son are still at large. To capture the suspect, a Jaipur police special team has been assembled. According to the police’s preliminary investigation, the proprietors of the store recently bought an apartment for Rs 3 crore.

According to the police, special teams have been sent out to find the two accused parties and more investigation into the issue is ongoing.
