A woman in Lalsinghmura, Bishalgarh, Tripura, was reportedly assaulted and had half of her head shaved by a group of 15-20 women, allegedly due to a financial dispute. The incident happened when the victim was at home in the kitchen.
Attack triggered by financial dispute
According to the victim, the attackers barged into her house and dragged her outside after a brief conversation. They rebuked and assaulted her, then shaved part of her head. She claimed the violence was because her husband owed money to the local Self-Help Group (SHG), which the group members wanted repaid. The victim stated the women demanded immediate repayment of the borrowed money.
Police investigate the incident
Bishalgarh Women Police Station’s Inspector Shiuli Das, in charge of the investigation, confirmed the involvement of the SHG members in the attack. "We are conducting a thorough investigation to uncover the facts," she said. The police have filed a case against 20-21 unnamed individuals, charging them under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita (BNS). These include Section 74 for outraging the modesty of a woman, Section 115(2) for voluntarily causing hurt, and Section 3(5) for common intention.
The woman was rescued and brought to the police station for safety and inquiry. Police are continuing their investigation.
