In a disturbing incident from Badaun in Uttar Pradesh, a man brutally assaulted his wife by cutting open her stomach to check baby gender. The perpetrator, now serving a life sentence, resided in the town’s Civil Lines area.

Horrific Assault Over Baby Gender:

The man identified as Panna Lal, used a sickle to inflict harm on his wife’s abdomen. The horrifying event took place in September 2020. The couple, who were parents to five daughters, had been married for 22 years and often quarreled. The victim’s family tried to persuade Lal to stop arguing with his wife, but their efforts were unsuccessful. Lal wanted a son and threatened his wife’s family with divorce and remarriage if his wife did not give birth to a male child.

On the day of the assault, the couple argued over the gender of their unborn child. When Anita resisted, Lal threatened her life. He quickly grabbed a sickle and attacked her. As Anita attempted to protect herself, he grabbed her and used the sickle to wound her abdomen. At the time, she was eight months pregnant.

Anita told the court that her intestines were exposed following the sickle assault. She managed to flee to the streets and cry for assistance. Her brother, who worked nearby, ushed to her aid, causing Panna Lal to flee.

Anita’s brother immediately took her to a hospital. Although she survived the assault, the unborn child, a male fetus, did not. Panna Lal defended himself in court by claiming that his wife had injured herself and falsely accused him due to a property dispute with her brothers. However, the court rejected his defense and sentenced him to life imprisonment.
