In Bhadohi, Uttar Pradesh, a 27-year-old man allegedly poisoned his twin daughters before taking his own life, police said on Monday. The heartbreaking episode unfolded in the Ugapur area where, Omprakash Yadav reportedly fed milk laced with poison to his 14-month-old daughters, Aashi and Priyashi, before hanging himself.

Station House Officer (SHO) Ajit Kumar Srivastava revealed that Yadav had filed a missing person's report for his wife, Sangam Yadav on November 21. “She had left their home, leaving him alone to care for their daughters. This appears to have caused him severe mental distress,” the SHO explained.

Citing Yadav's family, he reportedly attempted to hang himself at his house, but he stepped out around 7 a.m. so that people would not stop him from doing that.

Locals have said Yadav was seen 500 yards away from his home near the Ganesh Chandra Laudar Inter College but did not suspect the man.

The tragedy came to light when later in the day, his dead body was found hanging from a tree in front of the college.

Appalled by the incident, locals informed Yadav's family members. Soon after relatives reached his house, they found the two infant bodies to be dead and immediately rang the police bell.

“Three bodies have been sent for postmortem, and a forensic team has collected a sample of the milk for analysis. Further investigation is underway,” SHO Srivastava stated.

The incident has sent shock waves in the local community which highlights the mental strain and coping mechanism with personal crises. The authorities are probing circumstances surrounding family circumstances to determine the full extent of the tragedy.
