A 40-year-old man was slain in a targeted attack in Rajouri, Jammu & Kashmir, on Monday. The victim, Mohammad Raziq, was shot after leaving a mosque in his hamlet Kunda Top, which is part of the Thanamandi police station area.
Raziq was promptly taken to a hospital, where he died from his injuries. His death in this targeted strike occurred 20 years after his father, Mohammad Akbar, was killed by terrorists.
Officials told PTI that Razaq's brother is a soldier in the Territorial Army. The targeted attack, the third in two weeks, occurred during the ongoing Lok Sabha elections.
The incident happened in the Shadra Sharif region. Security forces quickly blocked off the whole area, initiating an extensive search operation. Terrorists targeted the victim, who was transported to the hospital in critical condition.
Former J&K Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti expressed condolences to the departed family, stating that this is the third targeted killing in less than 10 days. "My condolences to the bereaved family."
Meanwhile, Congress slammed the Centre on the issue of ending terrorism events in the valley.
The incident occurred less than a week after militants shot and killed a migrant worker from Bihar in Anantnag, south Kashmir. The victim was transported to a hospital, where he died from his injuries.
A Telegram channel carrying propaganda from The Resistance Front (TRF), a Lashkar-e-Taiba proxy cell, claimed responsibility for the attack. The assassination was described as a "gift for your elections" by the terror group.
Raja Shah, 35, the son of a Bihar resident, died. He had suffered two bullet wounds to the neck and abdomen.
Earlier on April 8, militants shot and injured a non-local tourist cab driver in south Kashmir's Shopian area.
