A mobile game proved deadly for a young teenager in West Bengal's Murshidabad district after he was reportedly murdered by four of his friends after a quarrel over sharing the password of an online mobile game, according to a senior police officer. The corpse of 18-year-old Papai Das, who had been missing since January 8, was recovered on Monday near Nishindra Ghat of the feeder canal in Farakka, police said.

Papai, a class 10 student, was allegedly murdered by four "close" friends after an argument over sharing the password for a mobile internet game. Police said the offenders have been apprehended.

"These five people used to spend their time playing online games at one of the Farakka Barrage quarters. The victim left on the evening of January 8 and never returned. On January 9, the family filed a police report.

"Based on preliminary investigations, we discovered that the victim had refused to share his password to play the online mobile game with his friends, which resulted in a fight and ultimately led to his murder," the police official said. Police alleged that after murdering him, the four "friends" attempted to burn him with petrol from their bikes.

"They then dumped the partially burned body into the Nishindra ghat of the Farakka feeder and fled to their homes. We have determined their involvement through the tower location of their mobile phones," he continued.

The victim's mother recognised him based on his tattoos. The police officer further stated that the kid was so attracted to the online game that he skipped his pre-board test this year.
