Almost a year after the attack on the Indian High Commission in London, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) made the first arrest on Thursday (April 25).
The investigation agency has apprehended Inderpal Singh Gaba, a resident of Hounslow in the United Kingdom, for engaging in illegal actions during the March 2023 protests.
Gaba, an alleged Khalistani fanatic, and Avtar Singh Khanda (now deceased) are accused of desecrating the Indian national flag during the protests.
According to Indian news agency PTI, the federal agency has yet to divulge the location from which Gaba was arrested.
However, according to the article, the agency discovered that the incidents that occurred in London on March 19 and 2 were part of a broader scheme. According to reports, the "conspiracy" aimed to launch savage attacks on Indian missions and officials.
Pro-Khalistani demonstrators attempted to vandalize the Indian mission in London during protests outside the High Commission compound on March 19, pulling down the Indian national flag and flying Khalistani flags in its place.
In June of last year, the NIA released five recordings of the London assault in order to enlist the public's assistance in identifying those responsible.
The NIA claims that this attack was carried out in retribution for the arrest of pro-Khalistani separatist Amritpal Singh.
"The attacks in London in March 2023 were found to be in retaliation to the action taken by the Punjab Police against pro-Khalistani separatist Amritpal Singh on March 18, 2023," said NIA in its statement.
Amritpal Singh, the leader of the 'Waris Punjab De' organization, was apprehended in Moga's Rode village on April 23 last year, after a more than one-month manhunt. He is currently detained in Dibrugarh jail in Assam, along with nine of his colleagues.
