A 29-year-old woman named Ritika Sen was strangled to death by her live-in partner, 32-year-old Sachin Rajput, in Bhopal’s Gayatri Nagar. What made the case even more disturbing is that after the murder, Sachin slept next to her body for two nights, pretending as if nothing had happened.

The murder took place on the night of June 27 after the couple had a heated argument. According to police, Sachin was unemployed and had become jealous and suspicious of Ritika, who worked at a private firm. He believed she was having an affair with her boss. The argument turned violent, and in a fit of anger, Sachin strangled her to death.

Police say that after killing Ritika, he wrapped her body in a blanket and left it on the bed. Then he stayed in the same room for the next two days, drinking heavily and falling into fear and shock.

On Sunday, while still drunk and unstable, Sachin told his friend Anuj in Misrod that he had killed Ritika. At first, Anuj did not believe him. But when Sachin repeated his confession the next morning, Anuj finally informed the police around 5 pm on Monday.

When Bajaria police arrived at the rented house, they found Ritika’s body in a decomposed state. It was still wrapped in the blanket, lying on the bed exactly as Sachin had described.

“They had been in a live-in relationship for three and a half years,” police said.

Police station in-charge Shilpa Kaurav told NDTV, “The woman is identified as Ritika Sen. She was living with her boyfriend, Sachin Rajput, who is married and has two children. On the night of June 27, the two had a fight. The fight escalated, and Sachin strangled her. He wrapped the body and continued staying in the same room. In a drunken state, he told his friend what he had done. When the friend realised it wasn't a joke, he informed the police.”

Sachin is originally from Sironj in Vidisha district. He and Ritika had moved to the Gayatri Nagar house about nine months ago. While Ritika worked, Sachin stayed home and often doubted her actions.

Police have taken Sachin into custody and filed a murder case. The post-mortem report is still awaited, and investigations are continuing.
