A woman was arrested by the police over a decade after marrying several men and collecting a total of ₹1.25 crore from them under the pretence of settlement.
Seema, also known as Nikki, a resident of Uttarakhand, initially got married to a businessman from Agra in 2013. After some time, she filed a case against his family and received ₹75 lakh as part of a settlement. In 2023, Seema married a businessman from Jaipur but quickly fled his home with jewellery and cash worth ₹36 lakh. The family filed a case, leading to Seema's arrest by the Jaipur Police.
According to the police investigation,Seema targeted her victims through matrimonial sites, often choosing men who were divorced or had recently lost their wives. By marrying men in different states, she managed to extort a total of ₹1.25 crore through various settlement cases.
Deputy Commissioner of Police Amit Kumar said that the investigation revealed that a businessman from Jhotiwada, Jaipur, had filed a case in July of the previous year. According to his complaint, after the death of his first wife, he registered on a matrimonial site, Life Partner.com, and married a woman from Dehradun in February of this year.
For a few months after the marriage, they lived together, but in July, she disappeared with jewellery worth ₹30 lakh, ₹6.5 lakh in cash, and other items.
While the police were investigating this case, another incident came to light where the same woman married an engineer and then ran away with his money and jewellery as well. Later, the woman filed a report against the businessman from Dehradun, the engineer, and their families.
Both the Rajasthan and Dehradun police were investigating their respective cases. During this investigation, it was discovered that the same woman was involved in both cases. As a result, the woman was arrested on Saturday.
