A 25-year-old Kenyan woman was arrested on Thursday at the Indira Gandhi International Airport in Delhi after officials caught her entering India with cocaine worth approximately ₹13 crores. The woman had dissolved the cocaine into two whisky bottles she was carrying in order to hide it from customs.
Officials said that the woman arrived on a student visa from Addis Ababa (Ethiopia) but could not produce any ID from any institute in India nor she could give the name of any institute when asked.
The officials said that while scanning the woman's bag, they noticed that it had two unsealed liquor bottles and the liquor inside seemed "thicker than usual". The bottles were x-rayed again and officials identified an "unusual greenish tint". After sending it for further tests, it was revealed that the liquor had 22% to 28% cocaine dissolved or 850-900 grams of cocaine which is worth approximately ₹13 crores in the black market.
The woman, who was arrested under Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substance (NDPS) Act, said that she was given these bottles at the Nairobi airport and was supposed to hand them over to someone in Delhi. She was later produced at a local court which sent her to a 14 days judicial custody.
