In Bhubaneswar, Odisha, officials from the Vigilance Department found more than ₹2 crore in cash during searches at the home and properties of a government engineer. The officer in question is Baikuntha Nath Sarangi, a Chief Engineer working with the Odisha government.
According to officials, the raids were carried out at seven locations linked to Mr Sarangi. During these checks, the team discovered ₹2.1 crore in cash. He is being investigated for allegedly having more property and money than he could earn legally.
As the vigilance team reached his home, Mr Sarangi reportedly tried to throw bundles of cash out of his flat’s window in a panic. However, the officers quickly stepped in and recovered the money.
“It was raining cash,” say officials
A senior vigilance officer described the situation as something straight out of a movie. “It was raining cash,” they said, referring to the scene of currency flying out of the window.
Officials are now examining other valuables and documents found during the raids, and the investigation is still ongoing.
