In Canada’s Edmonton, a 20-year-old Indian-origin man was shot dead, in what policed claimed to be a gang incident. Two people Evan Rain and Judith Saulteaux, both aged 30 have been arrested, and charged with first-degree murder.

The victim Harshandeep Singh, a Sikh security guard was shot on 6 December, making it the second case in the week after a 22-year-old Indian student was stabbed to death by his roommate in Ontario.

The shooting was caught on the CCTV cameras; a man can be seen being pushed down the stairs and then being shot dead.

In a post on X, India’s Consulate in Vancouver expressed deep sorrow stating, “We r deeply saddened by the tragic death of Indian national Shri Harshandeep Singh who was shot dead in Edmonton on 6 Dec. 2 arrested & charged with first-degree murder."

According to the police, the homicide section is investigating the death of a 20-year-old security guard, Gurasis Singh, who was found unresponsive in a stairwell after a reported gunshot at an apartment building. 

Officers performed first aid before emergency services transported him to the hospital, where he was later declared dead. 

An autopsy is scheduled for December 9, and police have recovered a weapon. In a rare move, they released Singh's name to assist the investigation and address public safety concerns, as homicide confirmation is still pending.

The other case 

In a separate incident, a 22-year-old Indian student, Gurasis Singh, was fatally stabbed during a confrontation at a rooming house in Sarnia. 

The victim and his housemate, 36-year-old Crossley Hunter, got into a physical altercation in the kitchen, which escalated when Hunter grabbed a knife and fatally stabbed Singh. 

Hunter was arrested on a second-degree murder charge. Police do not believe the incident was racially motivated\, but the investigation is still ongoing to determine the full circumstances and motive behind the killing.
