In the Mumbai BMW hit-and-run case, victim Kaveri Nakhwa was ran over by accused Rajrishi Bidawat right before the Bandra-Worli Sea Link after being pulled there by primary accused Mihir Shah as the two escaped, according to a police probe, said news agency PTI.
According to PTI, Mihir Shah's father and Palghar Shiv Sena leader Rajesh Shah played an active role in his son's escape and had planned to take away the offending vehicle.
Mihir Shah (24), who is still on the run, is accused of driving the BMW luxury car that killed Kaveri Nakhwa (45) and injured her husband Pradeep when the couple was riding their two-wheeler in Mumbai's Worli district on Sunday morning, according to police. Rajrishi Bidawat, who has been arrested, was the other passenger in the BMW.
CCTV camera footage provided by Mumbai Police in court on Monday showed Kaveri Nakhwa being dragged by the BMW automobile for 1.5 kilometers.
Footage showed Mihir Shah and Rajrishi Bidawat removing the woman from the bonnet, placing her on the road, and then mowing her down again while reversing the expensive vehicle.
After being dragged from Worli, Mihir Shah and Rajrishi Bidawat halted the car right before BWSL and retrieved the woman who had become entangled in the vehicle's tyre.
Rajrishi Bidawat then got behind the wheel and ran over the victim while reversing. They then escaped, according to an official.
“They sped towards Kala Nagar where the vehicle's engine stalled. Mihir Shah then called his father Rajesh Shah from Rajrishi Bidawat's phone and told him about the accident as well as the car stalling. Rajesh Shah arrived at the spot in a Mercedes, spoke to Mihir Shah and asked him to escape. Later, Rajesh Shah planned to tow the BMW from there," PTI quoted the unnamed official as saying.
However, once Kaveri Nakhwa's husband Pradip and an eyewitness reported the incident to police, a patrolling team arrived in Kalanagar and captured Rajesh and Bidawat, according to the official.
Meanwhile, Mumbai police organized 11 teams and enlisted the Crime Branch to apprehend Mihir Shah.
The officer further stated that a Look Out Circular (LOC) had been issued against him.
