In a recent incident, a mob of Muslims attacked a Hindu temple in Sindh’s Kashmore region with rocket launchers. The assailants attacked not only the place of worship but also the houses of Hindus who lived adjacent to the temple.

It is said that the assailants fired indiscriminately and this led to a police unit led by Kashmore-Kandhkot SSP Irfan Sammo to reach the scene. The police officials said that the men fired rocket launchers at the temple which was closed at the time of the attack and that the temple only opens annually for religious purpose by the Bagri community.

SP Sammo estimated that there are around 8-9 people who carried on the attack and that they are still on the run whom the police is still tracking.

Meanwhile Dr Suresh, a member of the Bagri community said that the rocket launchers failed to explode, thus, not resulting in any loss of life and called on the police to protect the community. Stating that there is a lot of panic within the community.

Chief Minister’s Special Assistant for Human Rights MPA Surendar Valasai said officials were gathering facts about the intended target of the firing. “I have visited the spot and met the Hindu community. Inquiry into the matter and legal proceedings are being done,” he told Dawn.com.

The Human Rights Commission of Pakistan expressed concern over “reports that 30 Hindus have been kidnapped” in Kashmore and Ghotki. “The HRCP is alarmed by reports of deteriorating law and order in Kashmore and Ghotki, where some 30 members of the Hindu community, including women and children, have been held hostage by organised criminal gangs,” the commission said in a tweet on Sunday.

“Moreover, we have received disturbing reports that these gangs have threatened to attack the community’s sites of worship, using high-grade weapons. The Sindh Home Department must investigate this matter immediately and take steps to protect all vulnerable citizens in these areas,” it tweeted.
