The couple wanted to adopt the boy but did not follow the legal process. The accused have been detained, and an unlawful child trafficking case has been launched. In addition to the couples that purchased and sold the child, the transaction included two mediators.
According to investigators, on August 22, Sunil and Shweta Gendre sold their newborn baby to the Shelke couple through Kiran and Pramod Ingle. According to preliminary investigations, the couple sold their baby out of financial desperation. The Shelke couple, Kiran Ingle's cousins, allegedly paid ₹ 1.10 lakh for the boy and moved him to their home without following legal formalities for adoption, according to police.
Six persons have been detained in the case as of now, including the five-day-old boy's parents, Bhondu Dayaram Gendre and Shweta and the childless couple, Pournima and Snehdeep Dharamdas Shelke, who bought the baby. The two mediators, Kiran and Pramod Ingle have been detained as well.
A case has been filed under Sections 75 and 81 of the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act. Officials stated that the infant has been temporarily placed in the care of a local orphanage.
