After a six-year-old girl’s body was found in the backyard of a government primary school in the Dahod district of Gujarat, police have arrested the school principal, Govind Natt, for allegedly killing her. The accused strangled the class 1 student when she resisted his attempt to sexual assault her in his car on the way to school. He later dumped her body in the school’s backyard and kept her bag and shoes near the classroom, the police said.
According to police official Rajdeep Singh Jhala, the girl's body was found on the school premises, causing panic in the area. The postmortem report revealed that she had been suffocated to death. The police registered an FIR and formed ten teams to investigate the case. The girl's mother informed the police that she went to school with Principal Govind Nath every day. When questioned, Nath claimed he had dropped the girl at the school and then left to attend some work.
The police were not convinced by his statement. Upon examining Govind Nath's phone location details from the day of the incident, they discovered that he had arrived at the school late. When pressed further during interrogation, the principal confessed to the horrific crime.
After a detailed investigation Natt admitted that he had picked up the girl from her home at around 10.20 amHer mother helped her into the principal's car and watched her leave, but she never made it to the school. The school's students and teachers confirmed this. On the way to her school, the principal tried to sexually assault her, and when she tried resisting, the principal choked her to death.
He initially denied the accusation, but a technical analysis revealed that upon arriving at the school, the principal left the girl's body in his car and locked it. Later, he disposed of the body behind the school building and placed her bag and shoes outside the classroom.
Govind Nath, according to the police, is facing serious charges under the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita and the stringent Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. State Education Minister Kuber Dindor called it a shameful incident for society. "I am deeply saddened by this. We have been following this case for three days and urged the police to thoroughly investigate. The principal has been arrested, and I condemn this incident. We will take measures to ensure that such crimes do not occur again."
