Two brothers from Karnal, Haryana, who were being sought in connection with the fatally stabbing of a fellow Indian student in Melbourne, have been arrested in New South Wales, Australia by Victoria Police homicide detectives.
Abhijeet and Robin Gartan, the two siblings from Haryana, were detained in Goulburn, New South Wales, just two days after the tragic stabbing incident involving Navjeet Sandhu, a 22-year-old Indian MTech student.

Navjeet Sandhu's Brave Intervention Ends in Tragedy
As per the victim's uncle, Navjeet Sandhu was fatally stabbing in the chest with a knife during his attempt to intervene in a rent-related dispute among a group of Indian students. The altercation led to injuries not only to Navjeet but also to his 30-year-old friend.
Heartbreaking Account: Uncle Recounts Navjeet's Last Moments
According to the news agency PTI, Sandhu's uncle Yashvir stated "Navjeet's friend (another Indian student) had asked him to accompany him to his house to pick up his belongings as he had a car. While his friend went inside, Navjeet heard some shouting and saw there was a fight. When Navjeet tried to intervene asking them not to fight, he was fatally stabbing in the chest with a knife.”
Navjeet, described as a brilliant student by his uncle, was planning to reunite with his family in July for vacation. He had migrated to Australia on a study visa 18 months ago, and his father, a farmer, had sold 1.5 acres of their land to support Navjeet's education.
Seeking Justice: Victoria Police Hunts for Suspects
Previously, Victoria Police had shared information and pictures of the two brothers they were seeking in connection with the stabbing incident in Ormond on Sunday. Abhijeet, aged 26, was described as 170cm tall with a sturdy physique and black hair, while Gartan, aged 27, was also described as 170cm tall with a sturdy build and black hair.
