In Surat, Gujarat, authorities have closed down a newly inaugurated hospital after discovering it was run by individuals with questionable medical qualifications. The Janseva Multispecialty Hospital, the newly inaugurated hospital in the Pandesara area, operated for just one day before the state government sealed it to prevent any potential harm that could have been inflicted on patients.

Two of the five founders of the hospital have been detected to have fake medical degrees, while the credentials of the remaining three are still under the process of scrutiny.

Senior police officer Vijay Singh Gurjar pointed out BR Shukla listed as a doctor with an Ayurvedic medicine degree in the promotional material of the hospital as one of the prime accused in the case. Gurjar said that Shukla has been convicted of many court cases against him in the Gujarat Medical Practitioners' Act.

Another co-founder, RK Dubey who claims to have a degree in electro-homoeopathy, is also facing investigations. “These two hold fake degrees. Another co-founder, GP Mishra, has three cases under the Prohibition Act. His degree is yet to be verified, and we are also checking the qualifications of the other two individuals involved,” Gurjar said.

Adding to the row, the hospital's inaugural invitation had the names of some top officials among the chief guest list including Surat Municipal Commissioner Shalini Agarwal, Police Commissioner Anupam Singh Gahlaut, and Joint Police Commissioner Raghavendra Vatsa. However, none of these officials were informed about the event or attended it.

The hospital was sealed minutes after the inauguration. “The degrees of the other co-founders are being verified. Based on the findings, further action will be taken,” said Officer Gurjar.

The incident raises serious concerns over the availability of unqualified people in the healthcare sector and throws light on the importance of increasing stringent supervision in the medical profession. Investigations are continuing, and legal action is expected to be taken against the responsible individuals.
