In a recent breakthrough, the Delhi Police Special Cell has successfully deconstructed a terror module inspired by Al-Qaeda, resulting in the arrest of 11 individuals. These suspects were going through weapon-handling training and were reportedly preparing for serious terrorist activities within India.

As per the latest findings, the module was led by Dr. Ishtiyaq who is a resident of Ranchi in Jharkhand. The group's primary objective was to establish a 'Khilafat' and carry out terrorist attacks across the country. The arrests were made in a planned operation involving police forces from Jharkhand, Rajasthan, and Uttar Pradesh, where the suspects were arrested.

The operation was started following crucial intelligence inputs that pointed to the activities of this module. A statement from the Delhi Police, as reported by PTI, said that "the module, as per the current state of operations, was being led by one Dr. Ishtiyaq of Ranchi (Jharkhand), and it was aspiring to declare 'khilafat' and execute serious terrorist activities within the country."

Inspector General Updates on Al-Qaeda Module Investigation in Jharkhand

Further investigations resulted in the detention of additional suspects from Jharkhand and Uttar Pradesh for questioning. These individuals are currently being questioned, and it is expected that more detentions will follow as the investigation progresses.

Law enforcement agencies have also conducted a series of raids to recover arms, ammunition, and relevant documents linked to the terror module. According to reports by ANI, the police seized a variety of items during these operations, including an AK-47 rifle, a .38-bore revolver, an air rifle, an iron elbow pipe, a hand grenade, and six live cartridges of AK-47, among other materials.

Amol Vinukant Homkar who is the Inspector General (IG) Operations of Jharkhand Police, provided an update on the situation, saying that eight suspects had been detained so far and were being questioned. He added, "In the search operation, a few illegal weapons, laptop, mobile phones, and suspicious documents have been recovered. All these suspects are being questioned, and suspicious documents are being verified. On that basis, raids are being continued... After the operations end and on the basis of the questioning of the suspects and verification of documents, further legal action will be taken. Once the entire operation concludes, we will give you detailed information about the same."

This recent development is a part of an ongoing effort by Indian security agencies to prevent terrorist activities in the country. In May 2024, the Gujarat Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS) arrested four suspected ISIS terrorists, all Sri Lankan nationals, at Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport in Ahmedabad. Similarly, in April, the Punjab Police arrested Prabhpreet Singh, an operative of the banned terrorist group Khalistan Zindabad Force, from Delhi's Indira Gandhi International Airport.
