A man and a woman from Kolkata were apprehended by Assam Police just hours before their scheduled flight to Kolkata after allegedly murdering a Pune man in a Guwahati five-star hotel. The couple, identified as Anjali Shaw and her lover, Bikash Shaw, reportedly killed Anjali's former partner, Sandip Kambli, 42, with the motive of retrieving intimate pictures from him.

Sandip Kambli, a car dealer from Pune, had developed a relationship with Anjali, who worked at a restaurant at Kolkata airport. However, Anjali was already romantically involved with Bikash Shaw. Kambli, pressuring Anjali to marry him despite her breaking ties, became possessive, prompting her to cut off the relationship.

Guwahati Police Commissioner, Diganta Borah, stated, "The woman ended the relationship with him, but he became possessive and kept pursuing her. The woman already had an affair with a man called Bikash Shaw."

To address the issue of Kambli possessing intimate pictures, Anjali informed Bikash about his advances. The couple devised a plan to confront Kambli and retrieve the pictures. Anjali arranged a meeting with Sandip in Guwahati on February 4, where he booked a hotel room. Bikash also booked a separate room at the same hotel.

The confrontation took a violent turn when Bikash attempted to remove Kambli's mobile phone containing intimate pictures of Anjali. A physical altercation ensued, leaving Kambli unconscious. In a state of panic, the couple fled the scene.

"At around 2.30 pm, there was some scuffle between Bikash and Kambli. The couple wanted to get the victim's mobile phone, which contained some intimate photographs of Anjali and Sandip Kambli," explained a police official. "During the scuffle, Sandip sustained some injuries and collapsed. He later died."

Prompt notification from hotel staff led to a swift police response. Assam Police, utilizing CCTV footage, guest lists, and airport passenger manifests, located the duo. The couple was arrested near Azara at approximately 6.30 pm, mere hours before their scheduled flight to Kolkata at 9.15 pm.

The police are conducting a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding the murder. The couple faces charges related to the alleged killing and attempting to retrieve the compromising pictures.

This case sheds light on the complex dynamics of personal relationships and the potential consequences of possessiveness and obsession. The swift action by the Assam Police underscores the importance of prompt and efficient law enforcement in addressing such incidents.
