The Bengaluru police have arrested a man for allegedly smashing his 24-year-old live-in partner to death with a pressure cooker at their rented apartment around the New Mico Layout in Begur, Bengaluru.

The 24-year-old deceased, Deva S, belonged to Kerala’s Thiruvananthapuram, while the accused Vaishnav- her lover- is a native of Kollam, Kerala, a report said.

Vaishnav, an engineering graduate, killed the woman, Deva, suspecting infidelity, the police said. They both hailed from Kerala and had known each other for the last three years and had been staying together in a rented apartment in South Bengaluru for the last two years, the police added.

The police said the accused admitted that the woman growing close to another man had irked him, and that led to the murder. The two had regular fights prior as well, according to the police.

As further investigation is underway, the neighbours claimed that the couple regularly had verbal spats. According to the local news agency, Vaishnav doubted Deva of having an affair with someone. On the day of the murder, the couple had another argument and in a moment of rage, Vaishnav went into the kitchen, emptied out the rice from the pressure cooker on a plate, and then went ahead to hit Deva lying in her bedroom using the same cooker about three times. Deva, who suffered several injuries from those bludgeoning hits, died on the spot.

"As the couple’s relationship soured, Deva’s sister Krishna had counselled the two at her residence on Saturday, the police said. Soon after they returned from her house, another argument allegedly flared up between Devi and Vaishnav. In a fit of anger, Vaishnav allegedly hit Devi’s head with a cooker multiple times, leading to the woman’s death," the police briefed the media.

According to the police, Manjunath suspected Manjula of having an affair with another man. He confronted her about it on Tuesday night, and they got into an argument. During the argument, Manjunath allegedly hit Manjula with a pressure cooker, killing her on the spot.

At around 4 pm, Krishna called both their numbers. When the calls went unanswered, she requested the neighbours to check on them. She grew suspicious and came to their residence and found the dead body of her sister. Based on her complaint, Begur Police initiated a probe on the matter, hunted down Vaishnav who was on the run, and arrested him. Following the arrest, the accused confessed to killing his lover. The accused claimed that even after being warned several times, Deva was in constant touch with someone else and was also getting closer to him.

According to Krishna’s statement, the couple had gone to her house in the morning and were constantly arguing throughout the day. She said that Vaishnav claimed Deva was always on her phone, messaging somebody. However, Krishna tried to pacify the two and sent them back home around 1 pm.

The couple had first met in Kerala via common friends. They fell in love and had been living together for the last three years. Both of them were working from home part-time in the field of share market trading as Vaishnav was currently working as a marketing executive with a local firm and Deva worked as a sales executive at a private firm. The duo had moved to Bengaluru just one-and-a-half years ago.

According to some reports, the two were supposed to get married soon and the couple's family members were well aware of their constant verbal spats and had even tried to pacify the matter on several occasions.
