A shocking incident took place in Andhra Pradesh's Vijaywada where a man poisoned his 18-month-old daughter because of her dark complexion. The incident took place on 31 March when the girl was found unconscious with a bleeding nose and later declared dead in the Karempudi government hospital.

According to some media reports, the accused fed his daughter contaminated 'prasadam' which took away the life of the infant.

FIR has been filed against the accused and the Karempudi police are investigating. The wife (Shravani) later disclosed how the accused (Mahesh) and her in-laws used to torture her for the dark colour of the baby and how Mahesh had previously tried killing the infant multiple times by various means like drowning her in water, locking her in the room and even hitting her through the wall. The couple was married 3 years ago.

Mahesh tried to convince Shravani that their daughter had died after developing seizures and he quickly buried the body to run away from the investigation but Shravani's mother turned suspicious and took the help of the local panchayat.

Later a police complaint was lodged by Shravani revealing all the abuses by the in-laws she even said that Mahesh forced her to lie about the death of their child.

The Andra Pradesh State Child Rights Protection Commission, which is headed by chairman Kesali Apparao, has ordered an investigation into the case.
