A nine-year-old boy has been detained in Pune's Kondhwa area for allegedly sexually assaulting a three-year-old girl on Sunday. The incident has raised serious concerns about child safety and the influence of social media on young minds.
The boy, a Class III student, was produced before the Juvenile Justice Board. It is reported that he has been granted bail by the juvenile board and that his parents have been allowed to take charge of him for the present moment.
While questioning, the boy stated that he was led to this act because of social media content. The girl called him "dada" or "elder brother," and both their homes were nearby, and they had known each other for many years.
The distressing situation arose when the girl narrated the incident of assault to her mother. Fearful for her daughter's safety, she immediately informed the police and started the process of investigation.
The girl was questioned in the presence of a representative from a child rights organization to make the whole process comfortable and safe for her.
Charges have been filed against the boy under the strict Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, showing that the allegations are indeed very serious.
The case reveals the disturbing trend, wherein such cases of sexual assault with minor girls have reportedly increased over time.
This incident not only brings forward the need for greater awareness in matters of children's dealings but also raises questions as to whether digital content may be responsible for harming such young individuals.
