On May 9, things took a sharp turn when officials in the NTR district of Andhra Pradesh discovered, during a routine inspection, a secret treasure mine of unreported wealth. An 8.4 Crore Lorry carrying an astounding ₹8.4 crore (US$1.04 million) in cash was seized by police at the Garikapadu check-post in the NTR district, raising suspicions and igniting a well-publicized investigation. The truck arrived at the check-post at about 1:00 in late night, with registration number AP 03 TA 4666.
The interception of the 8.4 Crore Lorry underscores the authorities' commitment to enforcing transparency and accountability in financial matters. Such incidents serve as a reminder of the importance of stringent monitoring measures to prevent unlawful activities and uphold the rule of law. Investigations into the origin and intended destination of the seized cash are underway, with authorities working diligently to uncover any potential illicit activities associated with the haul. The swift action taken by law enforcement agencies demonstrates their dedication to maintaining public trust and safety.
Details of Registration and Custody of Individuals
The truck is registered in the name of a citizen of the Chittoor District named Shaik Aziz. Two people, the driver Ch. Shanmugan and the cleaner P. Sekhar Reddy, have been taken into custody after the money was found in a pipe-loaded lorry in a different cabin. The money was being shipped from Guntur to Hyderabad. Carrying more than Rs. 50,000 in cash or new products worth more than Rs. 10,000 during an election may result in a temporary seizure by authorities; however, these items will be released if acceptable proof has been provided.
"we will hand over this amount to the district scrutiny teams and further action will be taken by the EC officials and flying squad team," Chandra Shekhar, Jaggaiahpet Circle inspector told ANI. May 13, 2024, is when Andhra Pradesh will hold its Lok Sabha elections. All 25 of the state's constituencies will participate in a single phase of the elections.
A record number of inducements have been seized by the Indian Election Commission in the lead-up to the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. Authorities seized a whopping ₹4,650 crore in cash, narcotics, alcohol, precious metals, and freebies as of April 13, 2024. When compared to the ₹3,475 crore worth of materials confiscated throughout the 2019 election campaign, this figure indicates a 34% rise.
