A 16-year-old boy was stabbed to death at Ramleela ground in northwest Delhi, allegedly over "controversial" comments he made on social media, police said on Wednesday.
What happened at Ramleela ground?
The victim, a 16-year-old laborer, was attacked by two minors with a knife. Police received a call reporting an injured boy at the Ramleela ground in Shalimar Bagh, where officers found him lying with multiple stab wounds. Despite efforts, the victim died at the scene.
"He had been working at a banquet hall for just two days when the incident occurred," said a police officer. The authorities quickly registered an FIR and apprehended the two juveniles involved.
Preliminary investigations indicate the attack was an outcome of some sort of ongoing feud. Under questioning, the accused minors said that the victim had passed "controversial comments" against them on social media. Angered by these remarks, they followed him to the Ramleela ground and attacked him, stabbing him repeatedly.
The police found a dagger and the mobile phone of the victim on the spot. They confirmed that they are continuing to investigate and get more details about the motive and others who might have been involved in the incident.
This is yet another case where the dangers of online fights lead to actual violence in life.
