In Uttar Pradesh's Rampur district, an 11-year-old girl who cannot speak or hear was brutally attacked and raped. The girl was found unconscious and badly injured in a field, leaving her family and community in shock. Police have arrested a 24-year-old man named Dan Singh, who was injured in a police encounter after he opened fire on officers.
Girl found injured after going missing
The young girl went missing on Tuesday evening, and her family started searching for her desperately. They looked for her all night. The next morning, she was found in a field. She had no clothes on and was badly injured.
She was quickly taken to a nearby hospital, but her injuries were very serious. So, the doctors referred her to a bigger hospital in Meerut for better treatment.
The police registered a case under the charges of rape and also included sections from the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, which is a strict law made to protect children from such crimes.
Dr Anju Singh, who did the medical checkup of the girl, told The Times of India, "This is a clear case of rape by one or more persons, as there were multiple injuries on her private parts. Her face had been struck with a blunt object, leaving it swollen. She was terrified and unable to explain anything. It is one of the most horrific sexual crimes I have seen."
Suspect arrested after violent encounter
Police reviewed CCTV footage and identified Dan Singh, a resident of the same village, as the suspect. When officers tried to arrest him, he fired at them, leading to a shoot-out where he was injured in the leg. Rampur police chief Vidya Sagar Mishra said, "We registered a case and arranged for the girl's medical examination.
Three teams were formed to track down the accused. When we tried to arrest him, he opened fire at the police team. Police fired in self-defence, and he suffered a bullet injury. We have electronic evidence against the accused. The girl is being treated." The CCTV footage showed Singh talking to the girl outside her home before convincing her to go with him, where the assault took place.
