‘Meow Meow’ worth ₹3000 crore seized in Pune and Delhi

Indian authorities have made headlines with a historic drug seizure, capturing approximately 1,700 kilograms of Mephedrone, commonly known as Meow Meow, valued at an astonishing ₹3,000 crore. Details of the 3000 Crore Drugs Operation
The operation began in Pune, where the authorities uncovered a massive quantity of Mephedrone. Pune Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar reported, “Three people were arrested on Sunday by the Pune Police, which seized 1.75 kg of Mephedrone (MD) worth ₹3.85 crore from them.” This initial discovery led to a broader investigation that revealed an extensive network of production and distribution.
Raids were conducted at several locations, including a chemical manufacturing facility in Daund taluka, multiple godowns in Vishrantwadi, and shops in Delhi’s South Extension. The scale of the operation was extensive, with around 550 kilograms of Mephedrone recovered from the Kurkumbh MIDC area. Kumar noted, “The chemical factory, which was disguised as a pharmaceutical unit in Daund’s Kurkumbh, was being used as a production line for Mephedrone.”
In addition to the findings in Pune, Delhi authorities discovered around 400 kilograms of the drug hidden in shops located in the South Extension area. The operation revealed that the Mephedrone was being transported from Pune’s Kurkumbh MIDC to storage locations in the capital. “Close to 400 kg of the drug was seized from these shops, and some individuals are being questioned in this regard,” an officer stated.

This synthetic stimulant, related to both amphetamines and cathinones, is known to appear in forms such as white powder, crystals, capsules, and pills. The recent seizures reflect the drug’s rising popularity and the lucrative nature of its trade. The street price of Mephedrone has surged from ₹9,000 per gram in 2021 to approximately ₹20,000 per gram today, underscoring the escalating demand and the financial incentives driving its distribution.
This operation is one of the most significant drug busts in India’s history. Pune Police Commissioner Kumar emphasized, “Investigations are ongoing at a war footing. Upward and downward linkages are being probed, and our teams are working in close coordination with other agencies.” The scale and success of this operation demonstrate the authorities’ commitment to combating drug trafficking and curbing the spread of synthetic stimulants in the country.
