Reliance and Tata included in the list of TIME's 'World's Most Influential Companies'

Reliance becomes India's first company to be named twice in the list.

TIME magazine has recently published the list of 100 World’s Most Influential Companies of 2024. The list included India’s corporate heavyweights Reliance and Tata, also adding Serum Institute of India.

Reliance Industries, headed by India’s richest man Mukesh Ambani, made the list for the second time after Jio Platforms was included in the inaugural “TIME 100 Most Influential Companies List of 2021”. Reliance becomes India’s first company to be named twice in the list.

TIME praised Reliance, calling it “India’s Juggernaut.” The publication highlighted the company’s origin, “Reliance Industries was founded as a textile and polyester company 58 years ago by Dhirubhai Ambani. Today the sprawling conglomerate, which has aligned its growth with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision for a ‘self-reliant’ India — is the country’s most valuable company, with a market capitalisation of more than USD 200 billion,” stated TIME magazine.

The TIME’s list included both the Tata and Reliance groups under the “Titans” category, whereas the Serum Institute of India was listed in the “Pioneer” category.

TIME praised the transformation of Tata under the leadership of N Chandrasekaran, highlighting its foray into tech manufacturing, AI, and semiconductor chips.

“In 2023, it became the first Indian company to assemble iPhones and is building another plant. In September, Tata announced a partnership with Nvidia to develop an AI cloud in India. And this year, it announced plans for the country’s first major semiconductor manufacturing facility,” stated TIME.

The inclusion of three Indian companies shows the worldwide influence of the Indian corporate sector, It showcases their contributions across diverse sectors and their dedication to innovation and societal impact.
