Maruti Suzuki India Pvt. Ltd., the country's largest passenger car maker, has just passed another milestone by exporting 3 million vehicles in cumulative volume. This puts it at the very top of India's list of passenger vehicle exporters.

The landmark 3 millionth vehicle forms a part of a shipment consisting of 1,053 units dispatched from Pipavav port in the state of Gujarat on 24 November. The shipment comprises popular models like Celerio, Fronx, Jimny, Baleno, Ciaz, Dzire, and S-Presso.

In 1986, Maruti Suzuki embarked on this export journey with the initial major consignment of 500 cars that reached Hungary in September 1987. The company has been crossing million-mark exports through its export route since FY13 and reached 2 million in FY21. It achieved the latest milestone of 3 million in a mere three years and nine months, touching a million mark the fastest in the history of the company.

Commenting on this milestone, Hisashi Takeuchi, MD and CEO of Maruti Suzuki India said, “The 3 million cumulative exports milestone reflects India's automobile manufacturing excellence and is a shining example of Brand India on the global stage. We thank the Government of India for instituting encouraging policies and enabling trade agreements with some markets augmenting export growth.”

Aligned with the government’s 'Make in India' initiative, Maruti Suzuki continues its focus on deep localization and scaling up exports. Takeuchi added, “Today, 40% of passenger vehicles exported from India are from Maruti Suzuki, making us the number 1 vehicle exporter in the country. Our success in international markets is the outcome of high acceptance of Maruti Suzuki’s global standard vehicles for quality, safety, design, and technology.”

Takeuchi pointed out the export growth at the company. In the last four years, volumes have tripled. It is on account of this sudden spurt in demand that Maruti Suzuki is aspirationally targeting 7,50,000 units annually by FY31.

So far this fiscal year, the company has exported 181,444 units from April to October. It marked 17.4% growth over the same period last year.

Maruti Suzuki exports 17 models to almost 100 countries in the world. Those markets include Latin America, Africa, Asia, and the Middle East. Popular export models include the Fronx, Jimny, Baleno, Dzire, and S-Presso.

With this success, Maruti Suzuki takes India's automotive industry to the next level and postures as the best example of what Indian manufacturing can do in the global space.
