Actionstep, a software company based in New Zealand has come up with a unique concept of offering unlimited leaves to all of its employees. The move will encompass everything from sick leave to bereavement and maternity leaves allowing the workers to go on as many leaves as they wish without any questions asked as per the company statement.

Stevie Mayhew, Vice-President of the company said the model is supposed to be a "high–trust model which allows people to take the leave they need and then come in and do their best work for us, we trust our staff and hope that they trust us as well." He also encouraged other companies to try out the same.

He added, "There was a little bit of skepticism at the start and a few questions asked like 'can I just take three months off and go' but we've been able to work through all the questions with our staff and get them excited for the opportunity it provides. We trust our staff and hope that they trust us as well."

The company’s model does not only limit to unlimited leaves, with special attention to the mental and physical well-being of the company workers, the board has also fixed a requirement of taking a minimum of four weeks off if not more. This particular practice is already being followed in all of the company’s offices worldwide. Mayhem said, "We'd like people to take more though because it has better outcomes for everybody if they do."

A four-day working week is also in place within the working frame of the said company which they adopted way back in 2018. It is expected that a 32-hour work week could improve both productivity and mental health.

In the past many companies like Netflix, LinkedIn and Visualsoft also tried similar policies of unlimited leaves but found most people ended up taking less leave than when allocated a certain number of days.
