A 36-year-old woman from Zhejiang province, China, was shocked to find out she was eight months pregnant, despite trying for a long time to conceive. The woman, named Gong, and her husband had been finding various options, including IVF, but doctors had advised Gong to focus on losing weight first. The surprising news was reported by the South China Morning Post.

Feeling discouraged by her struggles to conceive, Gong had lost hope of ever having a child. However, life took an unexpected turn. In early December of last year, Gong noticed numbness in one of her hands and went to a small clinic to check her blood pressure. The results were concerning, as her blood pressure was dangerously high.

During the consultation, the doctor discovered that Gong had missed her periods for several months and recommended an ultrasound. The scan revealed an incredible surprise, Gong was 8.5 months pregnant, carrying a 2-kilogram baby.

Because of her high blood pressure, doctors quickly decided to perform surgery within four hours to safely deliver the baby. Thankfully, both Gong and her newborn are now healthy.

Gong was not the first case the hospital had encountered in recent years. A few years ago, a 29-year-old woman weighing 100kg was admitted for surgery and was shocked to learn she was 23 weeks pregnant.

Yang Liwei, an obstetrician at the hospital, explained that heavier women often don't notice the physical changes of pregnancy if their weight doesn't increase significantly. Additionally, fetal movement can be less noticeable in these cases.

Yang emphasized that having mild pregnancy symptoms isn't always a good sign. "Women who don't realize they're pregnant may skip prenatal check-ups, which can put both the mother and baby at risk," she warned.
