The legitimacy of the health department came under the cloud after a video showcasing a couple getting intimate in Noida's mortuary freezer surfaced over the Internet. Noida police, on Thursday, arrested the involved individual, Sher Singh (sweeper of the mortuary), along with two others seen in the viral video.
The video is said to be a month old. It shows the couple having an intimate act in the freezer room of a Mortuary. A man recording the video was seen demanding his turn, “Main bhi karunga (I will do it too).”
The video has questioned the security arrangement of the mortuary as numerous dead bodies related to criminal cases are regularly sent there. This kind of act can allegedly lead to tampering with evidence. Following the incident, some people questioned the legitimacy of autopsy reports as they can be easily manipulated if this kind of security breach continues.
Arrests and Investigation
Singh, along with Parvendra (the cleaner who recorded the video), and Bhanu (the driver present at the time of the incident), have been taken into police custody. However, the identity of the women is not disclosed.
“What was the guard doing at that time? The mortuary also has on duty a supervisor, a doctor and a pharmacist on rotation. We will request the Noida administration to deploy more security guards at the post-mortem house. We also plan to install CCTV cameras there soon,” Noida chief medical officer (CMO) Sunil Sharma told TOI.
In an official statement, the CMO mentioned that a complaint was registered to the Noida Police regarding an Obscene video shot inside the post-mortem house in Sector 94. The statement further confirmed, "The service of outsourced employee Sher Singh, a sweeper, who was found guilty, has been terminated."
According to the statement, a three-member committee had been formed to look into the probe. Deputy CMO Dr Jaisalal and Dr RP Singh, along with Dr Rishabh Kumar Singh, a forensic expert at District Joint Hospital are part of this committee. Dr Jaisalal, who oversees the post-mortem house, will lead the investigation.
A Senior police officer involved in the investigation told TOI, "After the video surfaced on social media and started circulating recently, we received a complaint from the CMO and a case under BNS Section 296 (anyone who does any obscene act in any public place) and Information Technology Act sections 67 and 67A (publishing or transmitting obscene or sexually explicit material in electronic form) was registered against unidentified people. Our teams later identified Sher Singh, Bhanu, and Parvendra and arrested the three."
