Doctors at a hospital in Punjab's Moga were shocked on Thursday when, while operating on a patient, they found earbuds, lockets, screws, and even rakhis in his stomach. After experiencing nausea for more than two days, the 40-year-old was sent to the Medicity Hospital in Moga with a high fever and stomach pain. Doctors decided to do an X-ray scan on his stomach to identify the source of his pain as his stomach ache would not go away. The outcomes were frightening.
The scan revealed that the man's stomach contained multiple metallic items. Doctors were able to effectively remove the objects from his body during a three-hour procedure.
Earphones, washers, nuts, bolts, wires, rakhis, lockets, buttons, wrappers, hairclips, a zipper tag, a marble, and a safety pin were among the approximately one hundred things that were extracted from his stomach.
The hospital's director, Dr. Ajmer Kalra, stated that this was the first time he had dealt with a case of this nature, and the patient had been experiencing gastrointestinal issues for two years. The man's health is unstable, the doctor remarked, despite the fact that all the objects have been taken out of his body. He continued by saying that other health difficulties were brought on by the objects being within his stomach for such a long period.
The man's relatives said they were unaware of the man's consumption of the substances and that they were astounded by the findings. His parents said that he had mental disorders but were baffled as to how he was able to consume the food.
Days before he was sent to the hospital, they claimed he complained of a stomachache and had trouble sleeping. They had previously taken him to a number of physicians, but none had been able to determine what was causing his suffering.
With pica, a person eats compulsively things that aren't food and don't provide any nutrients. People who have this illness struggle mightily to suppress the impulse on their own since it is obsessive.
Depending on the non-food item(s) a person consumes, pica can have a variety of impacts. Pica is safe for those who consume foods like ice, which is a typical tendency for pregnant women. Others can end up ingesting harmful or hazardous substances as a result.
Pica can harm your teeth depending on what you eat. Even when you consume non-toxic foods, it might nevertheless result in harmful issues. As an illustration, trichophagia, the eating of hair, can cause blockages, ripping, or other harm to the digestive tract by being lodged there.
People who consume dirt or clay may become infected with soil-dwelling parasites (geophagia). Eating feces (poop), particularly pet feces that may carry parasites or other diseases, may also cause people to get sick.
These characteristics are shown by people suffering from depression, malingering, psychosis and as we discussed, picaa (PIKE-ah).
