This 70-year-old man has, over the past few months, become an online sensation with his extraordinary story that originated in the quiet village of Mukiza in eastern Uganda. Musa Hasahya Kasera is said to have fathered 102 children and grandfathered 578 grandchildren.

Musa's story recently went viral after an Instagram user, "theindotrekker," posted a video titled, "The Man Who Has the Most Offspring in the World." The post, which raked in over 880,000 likes and had nearly 4,500 comments, shed light on the challenges that Musa faces in caring for his humongous family.

Amid the praise and amazement, there were funny remarks galore. One user quipped, “Isko parivar kyun bolte ho ...? Zilla ghoshit kyun nahi kr dete.” (Why call this a family? Why not declare him a district?) Another joked, “Mouj hai bhai ko.” (This guy is living the life.)

Musa is a cattle trader and butcher who has been married to 12 different women over the years. His first marriage was in 1972 when he was 17 years old. His wives are of various ages, the youngest of whom is 35. Together, they raised children aged 10 to 50, with older children and wives often pitching in to perform chores like fetching water, gathering firewood, and doing other menial jobs.

However, many family members have also made life financially. To ensure resources, he revealed that he eventually had to start administering contraceptive pills to his wives.

Polygamy in Uganda

Although child marriage was outlawed in 1995, under religious and traditional practices, polygamy is legally acceptable in Uganda. Reports reveal that high birth rates have been experienced in Uganda leading to numerous children in each family. By 2014, about 8.3% of Ugandan women and 7.1% of men had been in polygamous marriages.

Musa admitted that he never expected the challenges of supporting such a massive family. While his story has raised eyebrows, it also sheds light on the complexities of managing resources in polygamous households.
