A meteorite stone worth $1.8 million crashed through the roof of an Indonesian guy named Josua Hutagalung, making him a millionaire overnight.
When the football-sized meteorite crashed through the porch at the edge of his living room, coffin maker Josua Hutagalung was home. Even though it was a sunny day, he initially believed it to be the thunderous boom.
Hutagulung was surprised to learn that the rock was a meteorite since he didn't understand why someone would hurl a 2.2 kg rock onto his home.
“I was working on a coffin near the street in front of my house when I heard a booming sound that made my house shake. It was as if a tree had fallen on us. “It was too hot to pick up so my wife dug it out with a hoe and we took it inside.” he stated.
However, Josua Hutagalung sold the 2.2 kg rock to space rock expert Jared Collins for $1.8 million, the equivalent of his 30-year salary. He promised to donate some of the retirement funds towards the construction of a church for his neighbourhood.
“I have also always wanted a daughter, and I hope this is a sign that I will be lucky enough now to have one,” he added.
According to experts, the meteorite, which is thought to be about 4.5 billion years old, may contain ingredients that can provide light on the beginnings of life.
