In a sweet surprise to a homeless man, Robert changed his fate completely when he bet $5 on the Melbourne Cup while watching the race at the Pentone Working Men’s Club. Robert while watching the game casually placed a bet and little did he know that this would change his life forever. This casual $5 bet, soon after the game ended turned into a $100,000 reward.
It was after the race had concluded that Robert had stepped out for a cigarette and when he later checked his account, he was greeted with a sweet surprise of a six-figure amount being credited to his account, taking his total account balance to $106,000. Struggling to comprehend where the money came from, he checked his bet and found a green tick next to it meaning that he had won and now had more than a hundred thousand dollars.
"I couldn’t believe it, and I thought to myself, ‘there must be something wrong here’," Robert spoke to the New Zealand Herald. "I went into my easybets and realised that there was a green tick next to my $5 first four easybets with $106,000." “I kept refreshing the page and it still stayed there. It’s the one time of year I do justify putting on a few easybets.” “A couple of months ago I was crying on the side of the street because I had nowhere to go. Now, I consider myself blessed, really.” “I was ecstatic. When I realised the $106K wasn’t a mistake and it was genuinely mine, I couldn’t believe it. I screamed for joy, then I just crumpled on my knees and cried, to be honest.”
It was just a few months ago that Robert had found himself in a dire situation, crying on the road and homeless. He now considers himself blessed and expressed joy when he found out the authenticity of the newly found wealth. Soon after winning the $100,000 he called his girlfriend in ecstasy and shared with her the life-changing news. Robert who was once homeless, now has dreams of home ownership, travel and endless opportunities after having spent the best $5 he could ever have.
